2022, a record breaking year

Looking back over the weather for the year of 2022 we recall many records were broken.

  • It was the warmest year on record since 1659
  • It was the warmest New Year’s Day: 16.3 Celsius recorded in London
  • In the summer the Met Office recorded temperatures over 40 degrees celsius, which was the first time that the UK had got above this temperature
  • From January to November, every month the temperatures came in above average
  • Three storms battered our coasts in one week, Dudley, Eunice and Franklin
  • Record wind gusts were recorded, over 122mph
