Volkerstevin’s customer experience coordinator, Emma Barrett, wants to update everyone on some of the planned work they expect to carry out in the next couple of months on the Rother Tidal Walls East Project. The depot and offices are at Scots Float, Military Road. Staff would be very happy to explain the plans in their meeting room. In addition to the following details, the project team will be at the Rye rugby club on Wednesday February 15, 2023 at 6.30 to discuss what is happening and when. There will also be opportunities to ask questions.

The works that are planned are:

Working just outside the rugby club on New Road, April 2023, including the improvement of the junction next to the rugby club entrance.

Removing a small section of hedge between the club and the farm entrance along New Road.

At Monk Bretton bridge to North point sewer, the flood protection will be increased by 500mm. There will be a 500mm of embankment set back to create a new salt marsh habitat and three channels are to be constructed, tying in with the existing creeks. Once the new embankment has been created, the existing embankment will be removed.

Work also will be started to the embankment behind Kings Avenue in June 2023 so they can raise the embankment by approximately 500mm. These works are expected to last until August 2023 and will include constructing a piling platform with 250mm of sheet piling works (July 2023) and a concrete capping beam with a brick cladding finish, (August 2023).

Emma says: “If anyone cannot attend the presentation or wants clarity in the meantime about this important scheme, please contact the project team via email: rothertidalwallseast@environment-agency.gov.uk or call 03708 506 506.”
