There is so much great music on offer in Rye and Hastings at the moment. Phil Gietzen, general manager of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, invites us all to share in this wonderful event: “We welcome back to Hastings on March 4 one of the finest orchestras in the world and two of the piano-world’s brightest young talents.
“Shunta Morimoto was just seventeen when he wowed the judges and secured the first prize during the 2022 Hastings International Piano Competition. We are thrilled that he has returned to Hastings to perform Beethoven’s beautiful 4th piano concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Mariamna Sherling’s performance of the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3 in the final was warmly received by audiences in the White Rock Theatre and the global audience watching the live-stream, winning her the third prize in the competition. We are really looking forward to her performance of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
“To complete an already exciting programme, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Rory Macdonald, will be performing two overtures: Dvorak’s energetic Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky’s beautiful Fantasy Overture – Romeo and Juliet. We are delighted that Rory makes his return to Hastings after his performances at the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition.
“We encourage you to tell your friends and family to book tickets as this is one of the best opportunities to hear some of the top musicians in the world on your doorstep at the White Rock Theatre. Tickets can be booked through the White Rock Theatre box office.”
