In mid-February, at the Rye Vaccination Centre, we saw the last of some 52,500 vaccinations delivered since the start of Covid vaccination programme in May 2021, after which NHS England paused the operation.
Since February, we have been waiting for further guidance. With Covid still active, scientists argue that vaccine is still the best protection against serious illness. It is likely to keep infected people out of hospital and reduces the risk of passing the virus on to others.
Covid has proved to be more serious to older people and those with a weakened immune system but, vaccine protection may be lower and may decline more quickly in these people.
Therefore, after Easter, NHS England will restart the programme for people aged 75 years and over, those in care homes and those aged 12 years and over with a weakened immune system. These categories will be offered the 2023 spring booster.
At the Tilling Green Centre managed by Rye Partnership, the Rye Vaccination Centre will continue to be provided by Clarity Chemists, supported by a team of professional vaccinators and voluntary community marshals. Clarity has been tasked again by NHS England to deliver spring booster vaccine from mid-April 2023.
