RNLI Rye Harbour is on a roll. It has been a very busy and successful time for the crew this week. On Thursday, April 27 it was assessment day at the lifeboat station.
Dave Needham, assessor and training for the south coast, spent the day with the crew. Neil Jolly passed out as fully competent launching authority and passed the towing module for the boat-crew plan he is working on. More successes followed as the day unfolded. Not only does David assess the crew, he also gives guidance and training. Tim Brown for passed two helm units: IRPCS anchoring and veering. Tammy King passed her local knowledge and Martin Geldart, who only joined last week, passed his PPE module. Paul Bolton, lifeboat operations manager, revalidated his local trainer assessor status.
All the hard work and dedication and passing of modules helps to strengthen the team at RNLI Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station to keep skills sharp. The station is indebted to Dave Needham for his time, his patience and his encouragement.
On Saturday, Dave Rees and Mick Cocker passed out as fully competent tractor drivers which helps to keep the station in service because there is more availability of crew. Without tractor drivers the boat cannot be launched and it is good to have two more to call upon.
Gary Stanbury, assessor and trainer, who travelled from Devon to undertake the assessments said: “I always enjoy coming to RNLI Rye Harbour as the crew is so welcoming. The volunteers’ dedication and commitment to striving to be the best they can be is infectious. Well done, Gary and Mick: top marks and a well-deserved achievement today.”
