Ian McEwan is a novelist and screenwriter, an influential creative of our times. Enduring Love, Atonement, On Chesil Beach, The Company of Strangers and The Children Act will be familiar titles amongst many. In 2008, The Times featured him on their list of the 50 greatest writers since 1945. He has been nominated for six Booker Prizes and was awarded the Booker Prize for Amsterdam.
Winchelsea Literary Society is honoured and privileged to present Ian in conversation with his friend Jon Cook (professor emeritus, University of East Anglia School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing). Ian and Jon will be talking about Ian’s latest novel, Lessons: A Novel and copies of the book will be available to buy on the night – cash or card.
All are welcome to this event which takes place on Friday, May 19 at Winchelsea New Hall (Rectory Lane/A259, TN36 4AA) at 7pm. What an amazing opportunity for everyone to be part of, as Ian is always entertaining and thought provoking.

Some lesser-known facts about Ian
He has a degree in English from the University of Sussex and received his MA in creative writing from the University of East Anglia.
He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was awarded a CBE in 2000 for his services to literature.
In 2012, the University of Sussex presented McEwan with its 50th anniversary gold medal in recognition of his contributions to literature.
McEwan is also a keen cyclist and has been known to participate in charity bike rides.
