RNLI keeping us safe on the water

RNLI Rye Harbour is very aware of the many potential hazards that can befall people when they set out to have fun on the water. On Sunday, May 7 Richard and Jonathan Curd opened up their boatyard to host a boat jumble and a life-jacket surgery. The Curds wanted to make it day of fun as well as taking water safety seriously. They had a barbecue, a bar and live music with Matt the Boat.

Chris King, boathouse manager at RNLI Rye Harbour, ran the clinic for the life-jackets, and inspected twenty-eight of them. Many of the jackets required a service and Chris was on hand to help and offer advice and to rectify faults. Mark Stephenson, RNLI shop manager, took an array of products from the shop and people bought them and offered donations.

The day raised over £319 and this goes to help the RNLI save lives at sea. Richard and Jonathan were pleased with the outcome and have decided to make it an annual event. Paul Bolton, station lifeboat operations manager, said how grateful he was for the generosity of the Curds and how important it is to have all equipment checked before setting out in boats.
