On Thursday May 17 Katie and Alex of The George Hotel in Rye threw a thank-you party for all the people who had made the opening of The George possible a year ago after the fire.
Katie explained: “We arranged the drinks to acknowledge and celebrate one year on from our re-opening, when there was little time to do so.
“We were so delighted with the turn out, from the firemen who put the fire out, the builders and tradesmen who re-built it, our loyal Dragons and the people who live and work in Rye. We were so happy to celebrate with a few of the staff past and present who have been so important to the George over the years.
“We wanted to thank everyone for their contribution to getting us to this point. Both Alex and I feel a commitment and responsibility to Rye and the High Street. We continue to feel the reason for the George today is to be integral to the community and be a showcase of the local area for visitors.”

Lovely to see the celebrations, one year on, how time flys. The George is massively important to Rye and it was missed while the work was going on. However, for some reason, yet again us at The Golden Fleece in Lion St have been forgotten by Katie & Alex. Perhaps our invite was lost in the post!
