Do you know the man in the photo? He was spotted defacing metal boxes with orange paint along Winchelsea Road in Rye at 8:25pm on Thursday, June 15 with two others. The same orange tag can also be seen in several places around Rye.
George Fairbrass who runs GWF Groundworks in Northiam was driving through Rye when he saw the vandalism taking place between the junction of Rye Harbour Road and the Kettle o’ Fish roundabout. After taking photos of the group, he challenged them at the zebra crossing near the Rye Heritage Centre: “They just said ‘whatever’ and couldn’t have been less interested. Somebody must know who these lowlifes are, although I don’t think they’re local. It’s hard enough keeping Rye looking good without this happening. It’s not on vandalising our town.”
The same orange paint and tag can also be seen on a number of road signs on Rye Harbour Road, and on the gate to the nature reserve. Sussex Police have been approached for comment.

Sadly I do not know the vandal. But it’s also baffling to still see the Sex graffiti (which he did not do) that appears in a few spots around town. That’s been on that white cabinet for 2 to 3 years now. Why has it never been erased? Leaving it there sends out a signal to other vandals that they can do the same.
The irony of this article! Please get some perspective. This graffiti tag is a Bee, A BEE!! Which says kinder….KINDER after it. I don’t agree with defacing public areas but I certainly don’t think this person is a ‘lowlife’. The fact that his tags can be found near Rye Nature reserve is maybe something to think about? How is a graffiti tag which states BEE KINDER being kinder by creating an eyesore? That’s not irony, that’s hypocrisy. Shall I go around defacing Rye and graffiti BE HAPPY and expect everyone to smile in response?
Graffiti is what it is regardless of it’s meaning, content & placement it’s unsightly and not wanted & you are basically condoning this ‘tagger’ . Irony is not the word !

Why do councils and large companies always have to paint things in the most ugly grey instead of using pleasant, natural, greens, as common sense would dictate…?
To me, they are even bigger vandals.
