Last Saturday, Rye 1sts slipped to a 16 run defeat away to Rottingdean. A game in which they just failed to capitalise on really good positions. At first Rye reduced Rottingdean to 26-3, and Chauka Dilshan with 2-26 off 9 overs made Rottingdean struggle at 129-5. Then Saim Faraz 39, George Ledden 59 and Dan Brewer 24 not out, saw Rottingdean to 234-8 which was disappointing.

Rye’s response stuttered on 17-2 but Dan Seabrook 27 and Jackson Woodcock 34 took Rye to 77-3 but the innings then meandered to to 135-8 with less than 10 overs left. Luke Payton then took the game by the scruff of the neck and in 66 balls hit 103 not out with 8 fours and 6 sixes. Rye fell just short on 222-9. All of which can be viewed on the Rye Cricket Club Facebook page.

This Saturday the 1st XI host Seaford 1sts at the Rye Cricket Salts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Rye remain in fourth place in Division 3 East of the Sussex Cricket League.

The 2nd XI overcame recent indifferent form to record a large victory over third placed Glynde 2nd Xl, by a margin of 127 runs. On a warm afternoon at the Cricket Salts, Rye won the toss and were grateful to bat first. John Mackenzie 43 and Spencer Fielding 52 went off at 8-an-over, sharing an opening partnership of 80. Rye wobbled as Darren Howard took 4-31. Rye steadied the ship and pushed on to post 241 off 40 overs as Blake Rouse hit 25 and Ben Clifton 44, plus 40 extras.

Glynde appeared after the tea in the same Bazball manner. Charlie Silvester hit 50 off 20 balls, but when he was dismissed on 57-2, wickets started falling as fast as the runs came. For Rye, Blake Rouse opened the attack and took 3-38, supported by the spin twins Martin Blincow 4-19 and Ben Clifton 2-20, Glynde were dismissed for 115 in just 19.4 overs.

This Saturday Rye 2nds travel to play second placed Buxted Park 2nds.

On Saturday, Rye 3rds hosted Pevensey 3rds. Rye made heavy weather of getting to 149-9 off 40 overs. Skipper James Jury 61 led the way with the bat. Only 14 year-old Oscar Wincott-Stone 32 offered him support as they put on an 80 run partnership. In reply Pevensey reached the winning post 6 wickets down in the 38th over. David Jempson 2-24 the pick of the Rye bowlers. Despite the defeat Rye remain in 2nd place in Division 12. This Saturday they travel to play Pevensey 3rds in an instant re-match.
