To mark Rye Cricket Week, local artist David Ridgway was invited to display a number of his paintings at Rye Cricket Pavilion which were on loan from a private collector who commissioned them and who kindly loaned them to be displayed, on view to the public for the very first time.
I had the pleasure of meeting David as he was hanging the paintings ready for exhibiting, it was a privilege to meet him and talk briefly with him about this unique collection.
The story behind these paintings was covered by Rye News last week in an article entitled (Cricket) Pictures at an exhibition and to continue the theme, the following photographs give you an insight into some of the collection.
The photo above shows the initial sketches David made, a series of drawings in mixed media (charcoal, pen, pencil and water colour) of all the players and umpires in their respective roles.

As part of Rye Cricket Week, the famous Authors XI cricket team were due to play and for weeks, preparations had been made to ensure the pitch was in tip top condition however, due to the adverse weather conditions the match had to be cancelled.
