This Sunday, Rye are hosting a fixture between Rye Cricket Club and Winchelsea Cricket Club, to celebrate the lives of Peter and Mike Mathews. The brothers were club stalwarts for forty years and more from the late 1950s. Members of the family and cricket club members will be coming together to remember the brothers, and share their many memories and stories.
The match starts at 2pm, the bar will be open and tea will be provided for all those attending with a barbecue following the match.
The family hope to have a collection during the afternoon to raise funds for two charities of their choice.
The image features the two brothers front and centre prior to the Alan Oakman benefit match at Rye in 1965, with Mike on the left, and Peter on the right.
We do hope those who played with Peter and Mike will join us on Sunday afternoon.

So many local Rye faces in this team, including a young Derrick Baldock, and probably one of the strongest teams,to come out of the Salts, sadly not to be repeated, for a longtime.
Greetings from Belgium, sorry not be able to join you on Sunday. I have many happy memories of playing cricket with both Michael & Peter in the 1970’s.
So very sorry to hear of the loss of both Peter and Micheal I had no idea of their passing.
Still very sad.
