The Creation and Early years of the Newlyn School
The Creation and Early Years of the Newlyn School
.”Newlyn School” refers to the artist colony located originally located in and around the fishing village of Newlyn, in Cornwall (close to Penzance.) You may have heard of the Newlyn School and wondered why it is well known. The talk will give you greater insight into the background of this place. From the 1880s the artists, Stanhope Forbes, Walter Langley and Frank Bramley were working in this area and they became the founding members of this new school. Over time other painters began to be recognised as Newlyn School artists. All painters included in this school specialized in landscape painting.
Alan Read is the person giving the talk and he is an accredited Art Society lecturer and London Blue Badge Guide. For many years he has been a guide at Tate Modern, Tate Britain and the National Portrait Gallery. He also regularly lectures at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and Plymouth City Art Gallery. His specialism is in nineteenth and early twentieth century British Art.
