The Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club had a busy time in the lead-up to Christmas and new year, with their annual Christmas collections. The main beneficiaries of this year’s collection will again be local charities and those in need such as St Michael’s Hospice, Rye and District Community Transport and the Rye Foodbank amongst others.
Throughout 2023, we supported local events such as the Rye Country Show, Festival of the Sea, Winchelsea Fete, and the Town Crier’s competition. Our annual spring walk was successful, however we are hoping to attract more walkers on the May 19 this year for a variety distances in the Winchelsea direction.
To keep up in a changing society, during the year we’ve introduced a contactless payment system as the use of cash seems to be declining, although the Wi-Fi signal was a little slow in some areas.
President Eric Bourne, said: “The generosity of the local community has been magnificent. Our Christmas collection this year has raised over £2,000 exceeding all previous collections and will help us to provide support those in need within our local community. Given the extremely difficult economic circumstances everybody is experiencing at this time, we would like to thank everyone for their generous support.” He went on to say: “As the year draws to a close may I also thank the local businesses who have helped with sponsorship and practical support throughout the year and wish you all a happy new year.”
