Luckily for a local dog, Lola, there were three RNLI crew at hand at Rye Harbour on Sunday, March 10 to help rescue her from the river when she got into trouble. Having received a call from the dog owner, Lucy Green and Tia May Bolton headed to help with Ben Leroy-Lewis all RNLI crew at Rye Harbour lifeboat station. They collected the equipment needed to assist from the station and drove to the place where they were able to help the dog.
Lola’s owner, Amber was so grateful to the trio who helped and brought Lola to safety. Amber said: “What should have been a pleasant mothering Sunday afternoon walk with our family dog Lola, a springer spaniel, turned into a distressing one. Lola fell off the harbour wall to our despair. We were so panicked and concerned as what to do but we called people we knew who were off-duty but part of the RNLI. They came to rescue our dog from the out going tide and after a forty minute struggle for our dog, she was brought to safety. We are eternally grateful to everyone who helped us that afternoon. Not all heroes wear capes”
If you are RNLI crew you are never off duty even on a quiet nature reserve walk.
