The annual Rye Day of the EF Benson Society will take place on Saturday July 11, attracting visitors from all over the world, writes Seana Lanigan. The day starts with a lavish lunch at Fletchers followed by a walk conducted by Allan Downend, Secretary of the Society. Allan will show off the houses inhabited by the characters in the books as well as by the actors in the recent BBC TV series. Fletchers will host the traditional tea party and quiz, and the day will culminate in a reading of ‘Dinner For Eight’, a play written by EF Benson and first performed in 1915. This centenary performance will be carried out by the Tilling Dramatic & Operatic Society, under the leadership of Dilys Mayor.
