Spring cleaning – Rye style

Rye resident and painter, Alison Stevens was spotted recently taking her spring cleaning duties very seriously. Here she is up a ladder repairing winter’s ravages in The Strand.

The Jane Owen plaque

Touching-up the Jane Owen figurehead is an annual duty she says. It’s all part of keeping the ancient town’s precious maritime heritage ship-shape and Rye fashion, ready for summer’s flock of tourists.

  1. Well done Alison. When we lived at 3 The Strand, we arranged for the plaque to go up when we realised that many passers-by thought the figurehead had been on a boat. I used to decorate it at Christmas.
