Last Saturday Rye 3rds recorded an incredible 4 run victory in a game with over 500 runs against Westfield 2nds. The outstanding performance was the batting of the Under 16 players. Rye batted first and Tom O’Neill 67 , Matthew Best 55 Not Out, Sam Bradnum 33, Oscar Wincott-Stone 36 and Theo Burton 29 Not Out saw Rye to 257-4 off 40 overs.

Westfield 2nds then set out to chase the daunting target. Tom O’Neill with 3-35 made early inroads but Westfield hit back through Peter Baker 101 and David Miller 72 not out. It seemed Westfield might pull off an incredible run chase. John Josiah dismissed Peter Baker, and Rye clung on to seal victory by 4 runs. The young guns sit 3rd in Division 12, and this Saturday host Leaders Little Common Ramblers 3rds at Icklesham.

Elsewhere it was a gloomier day for Rye Cricket Club. The 1sts hosted previously winless Seaford in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Rye batted first and struggled on a dry two pace wickets. Rye could only amass 122 runs in 34.2 overs. James Hamilton top scored with 29. 5 players got into double figures but were unable to press on. Mark Sapwell 3-28 led the Seaford bowling attack.

In reply Seaford eased past the target but it took 31 overs and the loss of 4 wickets. At 61-4 Rye sniffed an opportunity, but Skipper Olly Smith 52 not out and Chris Stanyard 25 not out saw Seaford home. Rye 1sts sit third in Division 3 East. This Saturday Rye 1sts travel to play second placed Bolney.

An understrength 2nds travelled to play the reverse fixture at Seaford. A brave decision to bat first backfired as Rye fell for just 28 runs in 17 overs. Rye had no answer to the bowling of Oliver Harvey 6-10 on a pitch of varying bounce and movement, and an outfield that had not been cut for sometime. Seaford made short work of the target by going aerial. The previous week Seaford 1sts were dismissed for 52, and the visitors lost 4 wickets chasing.
This Saturday the 2nds return to the Rye Cricket Salts and in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn, against local rivals Iden Cricket Club.

The Juniors have been in good form this week. The U11b team beat Mersham U11b by 13 runs. Aubrey Tyson with the ball took 3-0 in 3 overs. Fergus Cooke hit 8 not out as the U11b team won their first game. A good performance by a team 2-3years youngers than their opponents.

The U16s beat Wye U16s by 25 runs. Rye posted 127-6. Matthew Best top scored with 31 not out, then James Archer 3-9 and Charley Prentice 3-18 and Digby Dinning with 2 wickets in 2 balls saw Rye to victory.

Next week U11a are away to Ashford, the U11b travel to Tenterden. On Tuesday the U16s host Mersham and on Thursday the U13 host Folkestone.
