Jailed and banned from every Jempson’s

Jake Finn

A prolific shoplifter has been sentenced to four months in prison after stealing from stores across Sussex, including Jempson’s in Rye. 23-year-old Jake Finn from Hythe in Kent has also been banned from every Jempson’s supermarket in Sussex, along with many of the county’s Asda, Lidl and Sainsbury’s stores.

Finn received the sentence on Thursday June 13 after admitting four counts of theft and two counts of assault at Brighton Magistrates in April. The Community Behaviour Order also requires Finn not to “remain on any retail premises within the county of Sussex after being asked to leave by the owner, any member of staff employed by that premises, or any security staff operating at that premises”.

Inspector Lauren Buck from Sussex Police said: “This is a positive outcome. Our police teams have worked diligently to secure this sentence after Finn’s persistent harassment of businesses in Hastings and Rother. Such behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue to ensure the community is protected from individuals like Finn.”

Vaccination centre closes

The last Covid vaccinations in Rye took place on Thursday June 27 at the Tilling Green Centre from 9am-12noon. Boosters had been offered for over 75s and immunosuppressed individuals, but not to other patients, for example carers etc.

Around 65,000 jabs have been delivered since May 2021 thanks to Clarity Chemists, their professional vaccinators and a huge number of community volunteers.

There’s no news on whether there will be more phases next year.

Iconic venue reopens

Icklesham Pavilion

On Friday evening June 21, a large gathering of locals attended a reception to celebrate the reopening of the iconic Icklesham sports pavilion after its renovation and refurbishment at a cost of £45,000 – all of which was raised by the local community and supporters of the cricket, football and stoolball clubs. The display of “1959” on the new Scoreboard is a nod to the buildings original construction in 1959.

The facility is renewed and will provide a home for sport and community use for the village of Icklesham. Rye 3rd Xl @ Icklesham will be using the pavilion for the first time this Saturday when they host Crowhurst Park 4ths.
