Good news – the ducks are back!

The ducks are back at Ferry Road Bridge. Their disappearance was in the article here. A flock of sixteen has recently reappeared to add noise, colour and fun to the riverside scene. They seem to have shed their plumage and a mix of new feathers are appearing, so it isn’t possible to say how many drakes and how many ducks. The children are watching them again and enjoying the show. Occasionally, a small flock of gulls takes over, but there are far fewer of those here than there used to be. Possibly, the chicks aren’t fledged and certainly avian flu must have taken its toll.

Infuriatingly, the fly tippers are also back, making a horrible mess of the riverbank on Sunday June 30. After contacting Rother District Council, they quickly replied: “This area is not serviced by RDC street crews. Please submit as private / park. Thanks.”

However, some kind and energetic people cleared the lot on Monday July 1 and Tuesday July 2, including the shopping trolley lurking in the depths. Many thanks to the people who did this, so the ducks are safe again and using the bank.
