Rye Harbour RNLI relief lifeboat B-875 Alexander was launched late Saturday afternoon (July 11) to help a speedboat taking on water and suffering engine failure at Rye Harbour entrance after the alarm had been raised by the Deputy Harbour Master. Within minutes the volunteer crew arrived and decided the boat should be taken in tow and one of the occupants should be transfered into the lifeboat.
The speedboat was quickly returned to the public slipway at Rye Harbour. Tony Edwards, acting Lifeboat Operations Manager at Rye Harbour RNLI Lifeboat station said: “The RNLI campaign was launched the previous Thursday because British waters are dangerously unpredictable. To find out more about the campaign visit RNLI.org/respectthewater”
To find out for yourself more about the lifeboat service visit Rye Harbour’s RNLI Lifeboat station who will open their doors on Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19 between 11am and 3pm for the station’s Annual Open Weekend.
Come and meet the station team and, if you’re interested in possibly joining the volunteer team, then this is a great opportunity to see what we do – and there is something for everyone during the weekend as there will be rescue displays during the weekend along with stalls.
On Saturday attractions include :
· The Sea Safety Officer
· A visit from the Dungeness Shannon Class Lifeboat
· HM Coastguards
· Fire and Rescue Service
· Rother Responders
· South East Ambulance Service
This is a great day out for the family, and on Sunday there will be a treasure hunt around Rye Harbour Village. The lifeboat station can be found at the end of Rye Harbour Road. Turn left and it is on the riverside nearly opposite the William the Conqueror pub.
