A warm welcome and stunning exhibits await all who venture into the the Rye Society of Artists’ (RSA) exhibition. It is beautifully presented and it established an oasis of calm encouraging reflection.

RSA summer exhibition

The RSA’s annual summer show runs daily (10:30am to 5pm) from now until August 26 at the community centre on Conduit Hill. The show started in 1951 and today includes work by the forty-seven members and many non-members. It aims to promote and help local artists living in or near Rye and is a wonderful, colourful, mixture of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photography, etchings, drawings and more.

Victoria Atkinson, RSA member commented: “As a member of the RSA, I’ve so enjoyed feeling part of a very distinguished society. Not only is it a great platform to show your work but it’s also lovely to share the highs and lows of being an artist with others who understand what it’s like.

“As a sculptor and one of the 3D hanging team, I love seeing the new work that’s been selected each year. It’s great when there’s a connection between the 3D and 2D work, such as colour or composition, but I think it’s always good to add a ‘pop’ of a surprise in the mix to make the viewer have to look more closely.”

Below is a selection of the work on offer, to get the whole picture and support local artists why not see the exhibition for yourself?
