Rye 1sts entertained Glynde 1sts on Saturday in an absorbing and thrilling encounter sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Skipper Harry Smeed won the toss and elected to bat. Reuben Collingwood 53 and Dylyan Harrison-Smith continued their recent good form with a partnership of 81, then James Hamilton 20 and Harry Smeed 23 continued the momentum.

As before this season, it was Luke Payton who gave the final impetus to the innings. He struck a fourth century of the season, 101 not out off just 56 balls, including 9 4s and 7 6s. On the last ball of the innings he was on 95, and hit the final ball for six. Rye finished on 266—6 off 45 overs.

In reply Glynde were equally belligerent, as Charlie Hobden hit 63 off 45 balls. Glynde maintained momentum, but Rye kept on taking wickets which was the key to hauling in the Glynde run rate. Dylan Harrison – Smith 2-43 and James Smeed 2-15 were key as were some excellent catching.

A 15 minute rain interruption offered more help to Glynde than Rye, but Rye stuck at the job in hand. As the run rate reached 9 an over, Louis Barron 27 not out and Will Burton-Durham 17 not out got Glynde really close, requiring 19 off the last over. Craig Pierce kept his nerve and bowled a good over to see Rye to a fourth victory in a row.

The 2nds had a tough day away to Glynde 2nds. Glynde batting first racked up 271 all out. Matthew Cramp 108 off just 67 balls and Darren Howard 51 doing the damage. 16 year old James Archer 3-33 bowled well as did David Jempson 4-29, and Mark Cook 3-29 securing full bowling points.

In reply only Ross Pierce 55 offered resistance as Rye were dismissed for 105 in 27.3 overs.

The 3rds played Sidley 11s away and were unfortunate to be the only match in the whole of Sussex to be rained off. 31 overs into the game at 167-6 for Sidley they experienced a deluge which washed away the game. This Saturday, Rye 3rds host Westfield 2nds at Icklesham.
