With nearly three million followers on Instagram, internationally renowned artist and internet sensation, Sam Cox, has a passion for doodling but is a man to be taken seriously despite his love of fun and his light-hearted view of life. 30 year old Sam, aka Mr Doodle, lives in Tenterden and it is there where he decided to cover his whole house with doodles comprising of a range of characters, concepts and line drawings that are like no-one else’s. He used 900 litres of white emulsion paint, 401 cans of black spray paint, 286 bottles of drawing paint and 2,296 pen nibs!

As well as decorating his house in his own individual fun style, his work can also be found on many other buildings as well as clothes and on his very individually “dressed” Tesla car. His doodles are largely in black and white but where colour is required he enlists the help of his wife Alena, and even Baby Doodle is now getting involved. Mark describes his drawing style as “OCD – obsessive compulsive drawing” and “growing drawing virus”, but we might see it as sheer genius.

I bumped into Sam, Alena and Baby Doodle at last weekend’s Rural Past Times where they kindly agreed to pose for me in front of the Tesla before making their way into the show ground. No doubt after his recent carriage doodling achievement in his home town of Tenterden, he was ready to spend some quality time with his family.

Tenterden steam railway has been doodled!

Kent & East Sussex Railway (K&ESR) invited Sam to doodle a whole railway carriage for them, an invitation he accepted, the first time his drawings have appeared on a vehicle this big but as it’s in his home town he felt it was an especially nice thing to do. The carriage is included in selected trains during the August summer holidays. Kids go free this summer and there’s a free Mr Doodle activity for every child.
