Fairlight Parish Council resignations

There are now just two councillors left at Fairlight Parish Council following the resignation of David Shortman, Derek Greenup, Ron Fellows Turnbull, Carol Sharpe, and Issy Horsley.

In an open letter to villagers, they say their work to “enhance the local community…has been impossible because of the undermining, nitpicking harassment by very small number of residents who have carried out a campaign of spreading innuendos, half-truths and personal comments about members of the council and the proper officer. This has had a detrimental effect not only on our ability to work efficiently for the whole community but also on our physical and mental well-being.”

The resignations mean the council is no longer quorate and cannot hold meetings or make decisions. Residents have until Monday, August 19 to request an election, otherwise members will be co-opted onto the council. Details from Fairlight Parish Council here.

Rye Cricket Week sponsored by Bournes Moves

Rye Junior Cricket Camp Sponsored By Bourne Moves

Last week Rye Cricket Club enjoyed a highly successful cricket week with over a 100 members participating.

On Sunday Rye lost by a single wicket to Great Chart, on Monday a stronger than expected Flamingo side beat a Rye side by 80 runs and then on Wednesday Rye defeated Newenden. The match was a way to remember the sad loss of young George Jempson a year ago. At the request of George’s family the Rye Foodbank was chosen as beneficiaries from the game. The players contributed a £100 in dry goods and £600 in money to the Rye Foodbank was also donated. Stephen and Helen Jempson very kindly provided a tea and at tea time club secretary Martin Blincow and Stephen Jempson thanked all concerned and shared their thoughts of George.

On Thursday and Friday the 8-13 age juniors of Rye enjoyed a two-day cricket camp, developing both individual skills and match skills.

The week was rounded off with the rescheduled bat and trap evening with eight teams participating, and over £800 raised for the budget to run and maintain the Rye Cricket Salts from December this year.

A big thank you to Bournes Moves the sponsors of the week , whose support ensured so much could be achieved.

Black belt success

Chase Skinner

Congratulations to Chase Skinner who has gained her blackbelt in kickboxing. It’s an amazing achievement for the ten year old.

In April we reported on her success at the English Championships in Gloucester. Her bronze medal there helped Chase qualify for a place in the Great Britain team in the World Championships in Austria in October. We’ll be following her progress. Good luck Chase!
