Donations totalling £4,500 from the proceeds of this year’s Senlac Classic Car Show and Country Fayre, which was held at Rye Rugby Club, were made to three local charities at a dinner held by the Rotary Club of Senlac St Leonards at the Highwoods Golf Club, Bexhill, on August 14.
Dave Miles, who organised the car show, spoke of his pleasure at the way the show went. “It was our second show at Rye and proved to be a great success; feedback was very positive. Next year the show, which will be our 30th, will again be at Rye and will include entertainment thanks to the mayoress of Rye, Nikki Stuart, who has volunteered to be our entertainments organiser. My thanks go to Rye Rugby Club for allowing the use of their ground and facilities, and to all those who helped before and on the day; without them we would not have had a show.”
President of the Rotary Club of Senlac St Leonards, Marcia Bryant, and Dave Miles, presented the donations to the three charities.
The mayor of Rye, Cllr Andy Stuart, received the donation on behalf of Rye Relief in Need. “The charity supports those who are really down on their uppers and are in desperate need; referrals are often from social services. Because of the very nature of the charity, it is difficult to raise awareness and get donations and funds, so I am very grateful to receive this donation on behalf of the charity. It will go to people who really are in dire straits.”
Niamh Carmichael, on behalf of the Chestnut Tree House Hospice for Children, said: “This is the best part of my job, receiving donations. We care for 300 children and families, 200 grieving families and many people in the community who need our help. It costs £5m a year to run the hospice services and the majority of this has to come from donations. I’m really happy to accept this.”
The final donation went to the Senlac St Leonards club’s own charity, the Yellowmen. Eddie McCall, the Yellowmen’s organiser said: “We’ve been working in the Pokot area of northwest Kenya for 22 years and our latest project, a clinic and maternity hospital, has been completed. I’m so pleased that we now have tremendous support from the local
government and community which has helped so much. The Yellowmen pay all their own expenses so every penny raised goes to our work in Kenya.”
In 2025, the 30th Senlac St Leonards Classic Car Show and Country Fayre will take place on June 15 at Rye Rugby Club. As well as the usual classic cars and vehicles and the craft and charity stalls entertainment will be reintroduced with a number of different acts. It will be a really fun day out for all the family so why not make a note for it in next year’s diary?
