It was heart-warming to see so many families and friends on Sunday, September 22 at Rye Fire Station for their open day.

There were many demonstrations, as seen in the video, but the most popular attraction was the dunking of the fire-fighter into a deep pool of water. The most fun was had by the children who dunked their own dad into the pool by hitting a target with a wet sponge.

I don’t mind getting wet to raise funds

Rye Community Fire Station is operated by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) and serves the local community by responding to fire emergencies, rescue situations, and other critical incidents in the region.

Like other fire stations in the UK, Rye Community Fire Station is also involved in fire prevention education and safety outreach programmes.

The Rye station is staffed by retained firefighters which means that these firefighters live or work near the station and respond when called rather than being on-site at all times: just like the RNLI and its lifeboat crews. This type of staffing is common in smaller towns and rural areas.

The crowds watched as they put out the fire and rescued the casualty

Rye has a great team which works and trains hard to serve the community with a real sense of dedication.
