Last Sunday September 29 saw the re-fixed annual fundraiser at Rye Bowls Club. Postponed from earlier in the season, due to our wonderful UK weather, this regular event attracted lots of support, from both the firefighters and club members.

All six rinks were in use and after an enthusiastic ten end competition, the club managed to squeeze ahead, to win by just seven points.

The afternoon was finished off with a ‘spider’ (when 50 bowls are simultaneously aimed at the jack, in the centre of the green) and a great barbecue, prepared by ‘chef’ Keith Williams.

We are pleased to report that the event raised £600, to be split between the Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund and Rye Bowls Club, who are still fighting to stay on the Salts, and to take over management of the green and clubhouse, from Rother District Council.

On that front, progress is being made and the club awaits RDC’s draft licence for next year. 2025 will be the year that the club takes up the reins and gets ready for an independent future.

The club’s AGM is to be held on November 7, at 2pm, in the clubhouse. It’s especially important this year, as a new committee will be elected and the plans for the club’s future explained. All members are invited to attend, and if unable to be there to submit questions to the committee beforehand. We shall report on the AGM in Rye News.
