A memorial service is being held in St Mary’s Rye tomorrow, Wednesday July 29 at 2.30 pm, for Pat Field. Before settling in Rye, Pat lived in London, Gloucestershire and Kent, enjoying an acting career, marrying and raising her sons, Guy and Harry, as well as owning and running retail businesses, writes Sara Nixon. All her life she was a busy lady and her four grandchildren brought her great joy. In Rye, Pat opened “Turtle Fine Art” by the Landgate Arch, a lovely gallery displaying the work of local artists. She had enormous enthusiasm for the well-being of the whole town and made very positive contributions, with original ideas, to the Chamber of Commerce, the Rye Arts Festival and Rother Environmental Group, never shying from the more mundane legwork necessary to ensure success for anything she participated in. Pat took her usual “can do” approach to her illness, showing determination to fight it, then getting on with life. She put her beautiful speaking voice to good use by recording talking newspapers for the blind and continued to enjoy Tai Chi, Zumba, learning French and tending her allotment. She loved fishing holidays in Scotland and Pat will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
