Sean Kinsella started his school of martial arts twenty-five years ago and it has flourished and grown to the renowned club it is today. His training courses in Rye take place each week at Tilling Green, Playden and at the Rye Sports Centre.
He has the special gift of understanding just how to get the best out of all his students, giving them confidence and teaching them that whatever they do, they must endeavour to do their best. He is patient and encouraging and his students have achieved so much, not only in Britain but in world championships.
He explained: “We have a fairly new squad of SKMA competitors who performed outstandingly at the WKO English Championships, ISKA English Championships, ISKA British Championship, WKO European Championships, and the ISKA World Championships held in Austria- and this is not to mention full contact fights attended too. “
To encourage his students to push themselves out of their comfort zone Sean has set up some amazing seminars and workshops with world class athletes. These seminars show the students that they too can reach to great heights and inspire them to achieve top awards throughout the world.
These are some of the seminars that have been given:
Bill ‘Super Foot’ Wallace, (10th Dan), kickboxing / karate, 70mph kick! Pro record 23-0, six years pro middle weight champion, starred in The Protector with Jackie Chan and trained Elvis Presley.
Don ‘The Dragon’ Wilson, (10th Dan), kickboxing / Kung Fu, seventy-two pro wins, forty-eight KOs, eleven times world champion and a movie star.
Sensei Wayne Otto, nine times world karate champion, nine times European champion, OBE and a Guinness world record holder.
Cynthia Rothrock, (8th Dan), holder of seven different black belts, world kata champion, weapons champion, martial arts movie star and also inspiration for the character Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat.
Chief Instructor Sensei Sean Kinsella (6th Dan) also taught seminars on Nunchaku, Escrima Sticks, as well as hosting our interclub tournament.
The school has trained one hundred and sixty students to black belt level and beyond; special mentions go to Sensei Zoe Whyman (3rd Dan) karate, Nick Glassock (4th Degree) kickboxing, and Martin Bridle (5th Dan) karate.
Sensei Sean Kinsella was also surprised when his students threw a party to celebrate twenty-five years. “The amazing students are what make us such a success, and I would like to thank each and every one who goes above and beyond, year after year. With our schools continuing to grow in Rye, Eastbourne, and Crowborough, we have no doubt that 2025 will be a very special year.”
