Lack of options undoes Seconds

Rye Seconds travelled to Haywards Heath with a lack of bowling options, and this was very clear at tea. Rye lost the toss yet again and spent the afternoon in the field facing a good batting track and a quick outfield. Haywards Heath started steadily with Ryan Dowdeswell and Tobias Farrow bowling well without luck as Rye spilled a number of difficult opportunities. Nick Paine steadily bowled a line and returned 3-72, however only Ross Pierce with 2-30 offered support as Haywards Heath declared on 256 off 48 overs.

Rye batted positively and attempted to chase down the total. Spencer Fielding with 63 lead the way and supported by Ryan Dowdeswell and Ross Pierce, but sadly the Rye innings finished on 211, bowled out in the 51st over.

THIRD XI : A great result beating league leaders Pett 2nd XI. Pett posted 246 -6 led by Karl Khan 88, with James Smeed taking 3 wickets. However Rye 3rds went past the target for the loss of only three wickets, as Martin Duffield hit an unbeaten century, supported by James Jury 49 not out and Charlie Dudley 36.

This weekend the 1st Xl travel to Southwater, the 2nd XI host Rottingdean 2nd XI and the 3rd XI host Seaford IVth XI. Next week the U16 play in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival, with a home fixture on Monday to Bexhill, away to Lewes Priory on Tuesday, then home on Thursday to Hailsham and on their travels on Friday to Fletching.
