The closed tournament at Rye Tennis Club on Saturday August 8 was well attended and the standard was high. The match of the day was the ladies singles final between Charlotte Pack and Dominique Mandy, writes Fran Sharp. The first two sets went to tie breaks and Pack played brilliantly, but was narrowly beaten in the championship tie break. Fran Sharp and Jan Marsh struggled to retain their Ladies Doubles Title after they had a close match against Janet Goodwin and Karen Spencer in the semi finals, but finally went on to win the final against Zoe Richmond Watson and Ann Bourne 7/5, 7/5. Similarly Scott Brotherton and Bob Thomson struggled to win the first round against Keith Thomas and Jason Stubbs with Brotherton and Thompson narrowly beating them on a tie break. They went on to win the men’s doubles title, and Brotherton retained the men’s singles title.
