Historical costume wall hangings created by Brighton artist Louise Taylor will be on display at Rye Harbour part of the Coastal Currents Arts Festival. The life size wall 3D wall hangings are made from buckrum, wire, felt, silk and other materials. The dresses are inspired by The Duchess of Devonshire, Georgiana Cavendish 1757-1806. The gold dress features machine embroidered feathers to show Georgiana’s influence on fashions. One fashion trend started by the Duchess was for ornate feather headdresses, embroidered coins represent her gambling debts and extravagance. The blue dress is based on a study of 18th century portraits. The display will also feature paintings by Lesley Mackenzie, quilts by Hannah Andrews, photography by Jane Silk and more. You can visit the Open Studio and meet the artists on Saturday and Sunday September 12-13, 10:30am-5:00pm, at caravan B30 at Rye Harbour Holiday Park.
