The Rye Singers choir will be presenting Christmas music from Handel’s Messiah at the Methodist Church in Church Square, Rye this Sunday, December 6, at 3pm, with guest organist Clive Jones. Entry is £8 at the door.

The choir, which celebrates its 45th anniversary next year, is known for presenting a wide range of choral music that includes madrigals, part songs and large choral works – such as the much-loved Berlioz Requiem – in their concerts, as well as the ever-popular Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

Over the years they have raised money for many local charities, performing in village and community halls as well as in churches, and have travelled to sing in Europe – in France, Germany and Belgium – as well as within the UK.

They will be celebrating their 45-year musical history in a special concert of their favourite songs on Saturday, February 27, at Rye Community Centre.

A traditional date for the choir – cancelled only once, due to snow – is the service of nine lessons and carols before Christmas in the candle-lit East Guldeford church and this year’s service is on December 20 at 2:30pm.

Musical Director Lesley Brownbill welcomes singers who would like to join a choral group that achieves a high performance standard in all types of choral styles. She can be contacted on 01797 222637.
