Hastings Mosque on Mercatoria Street, St Leonards threw open its doors on Sunday February 7 and dozens of vistors took advantage of the opportunity to find out more. A lot of the people I spoke to were either locals, or had neighbours who attended the Mosque and were keen to find out more. The event was part of the national Visit My Mosque day and included an opportunity to watch prayers, try some delicious home made food and most importantly talk to some of the regular attendees.
Children were very much in the front of the actio, greeting people when they arrived, which was a lovely idea, but adults were constantly approaching newcomers, welcoming them and answering questions. We bumped into the Mayors of Bexhill and Hastings (pictured right). Cllr Bruce Dowling, from Hastings, had just been to celebrate the Chinese New Year elsewhere in town. With the Fat Tuesday umbrella parade also happening that day, Hastings certainly has something for everyone.
