Golden Years [12A] 97 mins Fate, the pensions crisis and a steadfast refusal to accept the injustice of old age have contrived to force law abiding, retired couple, Arthur and Martha Goode into a life of crime. Refusing to take the loss of their pensions lying down and to fade away into their declining years, our characters decide to fight back. They decide to take back what was theirs in the first place. They decide to start robbing banks. A British caper-comedy starring Bernard Hill, Virginia McKenna, Philip Davis, Simon Callow, Sue Johnston, Alun Armstrong and Una Stubbs.
Florence Foster Jenkins [PG] 110 mins Directed by Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen), this is the delightful true story of the eponymous New York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice Florence heard in her head was divine, but to the rest of the world it was hilariously awful. At private recitals her devoted husband and manager, St Clair Bayfield, managed to protect Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give her first public concert, St Clair realised he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew. A sophisticated comedy starring Meryl Streep as the deluded Florence with Hugh Grant giving a superb performance as her attentive husband. Also starring Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Helberg and John Sessions.
Captain America: Civil War (2D) & (3D) [12A] 147 mins Political pressure mounts to make the Avengers accountable to someone. Tony Stark supports the idea of a governing body for the team. Steve Rogers wants them to be independent and able to help people without interference. Son of Saul [15] 107 mins Subtitled Winner of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and four prizes at the Cannes Film Festival 2015 including the Grand Prix du Jury, Son of Saul is Hungarian director László Nemes’ blistering debut feature, a courageous and unflinching re-imagining of the Holocaust. Saul Ausländer is a member of the Sonderkommando, Jewish prisoners forced to assist in the machinery of the Nazi concentration camps. While at work, he discovers the body of a boy he recognises as his son and vows to carry out an impossible task: to give the boy a proper burial. Visceral, gripping and immensely powerful, it is one of the boldest and most remarkable debuts in recent memory – and is already being heralded as a masterpiece of world cinema.

Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera and the free-spirited bear Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa, a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotises the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie, who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Neel Sethi with the voices of Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken, Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong’o.

Teatro alla Scala – the Temple of Wonders [12A] Monday June 6 at 8pm The story of one of the world’s most exclusive music and performing arts venues, Teatro Alla Scala has upheld its position as a world-class theatre throughout the years thanks to historical music and theatre greats such as Giuseppe Verdi and Arturo Toscanini, and contemporary arts directors including Franco Zeffirelli and Patrice Chéreau. The film leads us through the main historical, musical, social and political events in La Scala’s 238-year history in a story that is beautifully brought to life on the big screen through commentary from musicians, experts and aficionados, photographs, musical scores, paintings and videos from centuries of archive material.
The Audience [PG] Sunday June 12 at 7:30pm The 2013 West End production – featuring Helen Mirren’s multi-award-winning performance as Queen Elizabeth II – returns this June in celebration of the monarch’s 90th birthday with a specially recorded Q&A with Helen Mirren and Stephen Daldry. For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. Papal Basilicas of Rome [12A] Monday July 4 at 8pm To commemorate the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy announced by Pope Francis last year, this sumptuous documentary brings completely new footage of St Peter’s, St John Lateran, St Mary Major, St Paul Outside The Walls and the works of art enshrined within them to the big screen. The creators of last year’s Florence and the Uffizi Gallery have captured incredible new footage of the awe-inspiring basilicas with a film offering a unique opportunity to savour in pin-sharp detail the work of Michelangelo, Bernini and Borromini, and revealing the fascinating story of the basilicas, their evolution over the centuries and the most famous artworks contained within.
