Rye Cricket Club 3rd XI team faced Crowhurst Park Cricket Club 4th XI in a top of the table clash in division 12. Rye won the toss and elected to field first.
Crowhurst Park started off well, before James Smeed (1 for 17) made the breakthrough with the score on 29, by bowling Matthew Constable (19). The introduction of Oscar Goodsell saw Bradley Ayres (15 ) trapped lbw, before Goodsell went on to claim figures of 3-31. A partnership of 62 between Henry Durtnall and Colin Ayres took Crowhurst Park to 127 for 6, before the former was caught off the bowling of Ole Jorgensen. Jorgensen then claimed the wicket of Ayres (74), to finish with figures of 2 for 51. A quick fire 68 not out from Martin Barry saw Crowhurst Park to 242-8, declaring with two overs to spare. The other Rye wicket takers were Harry Rhys-Jones (1 for 12) and Tony Goodsell (1 for 43).
A shower at the end of tea delayed Rye’s reply. Then Rye got off to a good start, punishing any wayward bowling with an opening partnership of 71 runs, before Tim Morgan (18) fell victim to Martin Barry in the seventeenth over. Wickets then started to fall at regular intervals. Tom Martin scored his maiden half century and was dismissed for 56 runs by Barry, who claimed figures of 3 for 4 runs off 9 overs. Oscar Goodsell managed to provide some resistance, scoring 11 runs, before being stumped off the bowling of Dhanush Thiagaraj (1 for 41). Rye was eventually able to settle for a draw, with extras the second highest score with 24. The other Crowhurst Park wicket takers were Kallum Beale (1 for 15) and Matthew Constable, who claimed a hat trick to finish with 3 for 26 runs.
This Saturday July 2, the 3rd XI team travel away to play Hastings Priory 4th XI and are hoping to be back to winning ways.
