Purcell’s popular short opera ‘Dido and Aeneas’, written in 1689 with a cast of tragic heroine, Trojan prince and wicked witches, is included in the Ryesingers summer concert to be held in St Mary’s church on July 16.
To celebrate the choir’s 45th anniversary this year, Musical Director Lesley Brownbill has chosen a wide-ranging programme for the concert, with a second half of music by John Ireland, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Malcolm Arnold, Gustav Holst and Vaughan Williams.
The soloists are well known to audiences who have enjoyed Ryesingers performances over the years, and include Lesley Moore, Andrew Daniels, Jonathan Breeds, Rhiannon Chillingworth and Lucy Ashton.
The Ryesingers 45th birthday celebration concert is at 7:30pm on Saturday, July 16, in St Mary’s church. Tickets are £8 on the door.
