Great Dixter, Christopher Lloyd’s famous House and Garden at Northiam, is looking particularly gorgeous just at the moment. The dahlias in the mixed borders are out, the exotic garden is a wonder to see and the front pots have never looked better.
It is ten years since Christopher Lloyd died, and so this autumn’s Plant Fair is extra special. It will be held on Saturday and Sunday October 1-2 , from 11am to 4pm. There will be nurserymen from all over the UK and Europe and talks will be given by them at intervals throughout both days. A cake stall, a barbecue and a number of other country craft stalls all add to the mix, but it is the plants that really matter. Nurseries from Belgium, the Netherlands and France, Edinburgh and Copton Ash, as well as the nursery of Beth Chatto, the Patron, will be represented and provide interesting and unusual plants for your future displays.
Do come, it is possible that, if Brexit means the end of free movement across borders, our European growers will no longer be able to make the journey, as there will undoubtedly be further regulation regarding the import of plant matter, more similar to that of Australia or the USA. Certainly, one hopes not.
The entrance fee is £8.50. For enquiries telephone +44 (0) 1797 254048. Great Dixter, Northiam, Rye, TN31 6PH UK
