The New Beach Club at Pett Level hosted the 65th annual Harvest Home on Saturday October 1. The Harvest Home is a charity auction in aid of Rye Harbour and Hastings RNLI lifeboatsand raised the sum of £2,800.
The Harvest Home was first held in 1952 and the organisers still keep the tradition of collecting donations from the local area to be sold at auction. The collectors and auctioneers are all volunteers, including members of the Coastguard.
One of the first in a long line of entertaining auctioneers, was Ian Burford from the Rye-based ukulele band, Hall and Blokes. Ian said: “I am really happy to help such a worthy cause and if anyone is organising a local fund raising event our band will be pleased to support it by performing free of charge.”
Rye Harbour Lifeboat Operations Manager Richard Tollett attended the event, along with many RNLI volunteers from Rye Harbour and Hastings. He said “We are very appreciative of all the support the Harvest Home have given us over the years and I would like to thank everyone involved. It was a very interesting and amusing evening.”
Rye Harbour RNLI lifeboat station is actively seeking new volunteers and donations to fund a new lifeboat.
