The Plant Fair held on October 1 – 2 at Great Dixter was, in spite of awful weather on the Saturday, a great success. Some 400 intrepid plant hunters came on Saturday, with one car seen to come in at 11am, the start, and speed off 15 minutes later full to the brim with leaves, flowers and plants! Two people were observed in verbal battle about a particularly fine specimen tree costing £250. Serious gardeners were there in droves. Sunday saw 600 come through the gates in gorgeous weather and good business was done, both by the plantsman and the cake stall, which sold every slice. The pictures tell the Sunday plant story.
Great Dixter House and Garden closes on October 30 2016 and reopens in April 2017. The nursery is open all year round. for times, check the website
