Christmas is coming

Our special Rye Christmas is coming soon, December 10. It’s time to get excited about some of the planned events already confirmed, building on the wonderful experience we had last year.

Tales of Old, we can't wait
The theme of this year’s Christmas spectacular is “Tales of Old”

Coming up are the following: Christmas tree competition, telling tales (poetry/stories) competition, Christmas crafts at the Craft Magic shop, a Christmas pudding race, story telling,  a wishing tree, Father Christmas and his reindeer, Mother Christmas (hurray), a  “Tales of Old” trail around town, pantomime and a Cafe des Fleurs workshop – more to be announced soon. Tickets for Santa’s Grotto (£2 per child with a small, quality gift) at the Museum in East Street, have gone on sale.

We must remember that all this is made possible by a small group of women and a few men who have busy personal lives but have still managed to use their spare time to organise a memorable day for all of us. Having spoken to Jenny Sinclair who is one of the planning members of the group making the day happen, she said said that this year they had more support from businesses than previously, either with sponsorship or promising to do something outside their shops – for instance mince pies or Gluhwein. Thank you to all.

I am really looking forward to it, especially experiencing once again  the High Street without cars and being in the midst of people meandering leisurely through the street, enjoying all that the day has to offer.

The organisers would love to hear from people who could help as a volunteer, a few hours during the day where possible. If you want to know more or volunteer go to: www.christmasinrye.co.uk

  1. ‘The High Street without cars’!
What a wonderful vision -and not just at Christmas time, please!
I’ll raise a glass or two of Gluwein to that prospect.

  2. Please don’t forget to let us know times of road closures in advance. Thank you and good luck, I’m sure it will be a success.
