We regret to learn of the death on October 25 of Janet Pitcher, who died in hospital after a short illness. She and her husband Chris had recently celebrated their 90th birthdays with a party at Acacia House nursing home in St Michael’s Tenterden. Janet had trained as a nurse at Guy’s Hospital in London and then moved to Addenbrookes at Cambridge, where she and Chris met. They came to live in Rye in 1986 and were actively involved in amateur dramatics, scenery painting and building, and they both exhibited regularly at the Tuesday Painters’ Exhibition. Janet belonged to the Coeliac Society and helped at the diabetes clinic at the Ferry Road Surgery. She gave advice on the choice and preparation of gluten free foods. With Chris, she was a member of the Rye and District National Trust Association, for which she organised the Theatre Club outings; and also a member of the Ellen Terry Barn Theatre at Smallhythe, Tenterden and the Rye Conservation Society.
Her funeral will take place at Hastings Crematorium on November 11 at 11.45am. Family flowers only but donations if desired to Coeliac UK. Our condolences go to Chris Pitcher and his family
We are also informed of the death recently of Steve McClelland, an active member of the Tilling Green Computer Club. We are not aware of his immediate family, but send our condolences to his relatives.
Steve McClelland sadly passed away in October this year. He will be dearly missed by his friends. The Tilling Green Computer Club where Steve volunteered weekly over the past 3 years would like to send their own condolences to his family. Steve was a kind and generous member of the group, spending much of his own time supporting others in the local in the local community. He will always be remembered by members of the Tilling Green Computer Club.
