St Michael’s Hospice has been shortlisted to win £25,000 through the Aviva Community Fund. If successful the grant will go towards a new eight-seater minibus for the people we support in Day Services. The bus will enable us to provide free transport for individuals throughout Hastings and Rother, in particular those who live in less accessible rural areas. We currently struggle to offer our Day Services to people who desperately need them, because we can’t reach them or because they do not have their own transport. Help us help people with life-limiting illnesses to live as well as they can, for as long as they can. It’s easy to vote online. Voting will remain open until Friday, November 18.
It has been a year of positive changes for the Hospice, with the return home to the newly refurbished building, something that would not have been possible without the fantastic support of the communities across Hastings and Rother.
“It has been wonderful having our in-patient Unit return to the Hospice site; a real source of pleasure and satisfaction,” said Celia Pyke-Lees, Chief Executive. “Moving forward, we are looking to developing our work in the community, including increasing our support for end-of-life care in nursing homes and expanding our re-enablement and fitness service. I would like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season, full of cheer and joy, followed by a prosperous and happy New Year. And, once again, thank you all, from everyone here at the Hospice. We look forward to celebrating our 30th anniversary with you all next year.”
Last year the Hospice supported more than 1,000 people across Hastings and Rother, including 261 in-patients, 809 patients receiving Hospice at Home care and 221 people receiving bereavement support. As the services grow, the support from the community is continuously valued by the Hospice.
