Three major actors in Mama Mia

Acting Up in Rye put on a fantastic show last Saturday, February 18.  A singalonga Mamma Mia! was a sell out, with more than 100 people packed into the Community Centre on Conduit Hill, many of them dressed up in seventies gear or beach shirts, representing the setting of the film in a hotel on a Greek island. The film uses the songs of Abba to illustrate a girl’s search for her father.

The organisers had prepared a delicious three-course meal, starting with super garlicky home-made humus and pitta bread. Then we had a moussaka and salad, again picking up the setting of the movie and finally apple pie and ice-cream.

The atmosphere in the hall was electric and it didn’t take long before many of the mainly female audience were dancing in the aisles. It was a great night with lots of laughs and we can’t wait for another singalonga event.

But in the meantime, Acting Up in Rye’s next event is two Edwardian one-act plays, The Stepmother by Arnold Bennett and The Playgoers by Sir Arthur Wing Pinero. These will be performed on April 28 and 29 at 7:30. Look out for the posters to tell you where to buy tickets. I am guessing it will be Grammar School Records.
