The 2nd team of Icklesham Casuals lost 4-1 at home to Magham Down on Saturday March 11 in the semi-final of the Hastings FA Lower Divisions Cup but the scoreline flattered the visitors, who occupy third place in the division above Icklesham.

The Casuals dominated a goalless first half, hitting the bar and missing several other chances but it was Magham Down who took the lead early in the second period. Icklesham hit back and equalised through a Mason Maddox volley at the far post.

At 1-1 the match could have gone either way but three defensive mistakes then resulted in tap-ins and the game was gone, Icklesham paying for the opportunities squandered in the first period. However, Icklesham can be proud both of the flowing football played in the game and of reaching the semi-final of the competition.

This Saturday, March 18, is derby day as Icklesham’s first team travel away to Rye at the Salts whilst the second team host Hampden Park at the recreation ground.
