The summer exhibitions of the Rye Society of Artists (RSA) and the Tuesday Painters Club have ended with record sales.

Davida Smith who chairs the RSA, whose members include professional ceramicists, painters, and printers, said 2,000 visitors had visited the show in the Boys Club on Mermaid Street  over the three week period. A record 150 works were sold. This is even more impressive than it sounds given that the show ‘s duration was actually shorter this time than in previous years by about five days. She attributed the success to extra efforts with publicity, including Twitter and greater numbers of visitors to Rye.

The Tuesday Painters , who are mainly amateurs, also enjoyed great success. The building works around St Mary’s Centre did not deter visitors, 600 of whom attended over the long weekend, and 35 paintings were snapped up. Both societies and their publics are looking forward to the next exhibitions in a year’s time.
