Rye Lawn Tennis Club in Military Road is holding a free Open Afternoon on Monday May 1 from 2:30pm to 5:30pm
Never played tennis before but fancy trying it out? Maybe just haven’t played for years and not sure whether you could start again? or perhaps you are already a competent or even very good player, looking for a club. Which ever category fits, you will be welcome.
The Club caters for all standards from absolute beginners who have never held a racket before right through to serious tournament-winning players. Age is no barrier either. There are regular group coaching sessions for children as young as 4 or 5 and some senior members still playing into their 80’s. And every age represented between the two.
With 2 LTA accredited coaches, 3 hard courts (2 astro-turf and 1 simulated clay), 8 grass courts, and new indoor courts in the planning stage, there is always somewhere to play. Add to that, two squash courts, a padel tennis court and a croquet lawn, there is something for everyone.
Come along and have a go on May Day. Rackets and balls will be provided and the coaches will be there for help and advice to get you started. Learn drills, play games and have fun. The Club’s legendary tea will be available from 4:30pm.
To register now, contact Frances Candy, telephone: 07801 842704, email: fjcandy@talktalk.net.

This is just a blatant puff piece for the Tennis Club, who are meeting widespread resistance to their planned indoor courts. I would be more impressed if the club had tried to engage with the community over the previous years instead of only just now.
I agree wholeheartedly with this comment.
A little belated PR isn’t going to reconcile people to a wholly inappropriate building the size of an aircraft hangar being built on a green field site.
