Happy birthday, Priscilla

Priscilla Ryan celebrated her 90th birthday by throwing a party – but then she has always loved parties. Some 60 guests  enjoyed a splendid buffet lunch at the Rye Community Centre on Saturday April 22.

The highlight of course was the cutting of the cake and the warm words of welcome from Priscilla, accompanied by members of her family, daughters Marianne and Isobel and son-in-law Nick, who were the ideal hosts.

As Rye News readers will know from Dee Alsey’s Ryers Unwrapped interview last year, Priscilla herself is something of an institution. The energy that she has expended in supporting local activities and voluntary organisations has been prodigious.

Two years ago she was awarded a  a bar to the gold badge she received 10 years earlier for her more than 60 years’ service in fundraising for the RNLI, and supporting the work of the lifeboat crews. She has always devoted herself to the community affairs of the town, regularly attending public meetings and playing her full part.

A toast to you, Priscilla!
