The sun shone as around 50 cycling enthusiasts took part in the Rye Bay Coastguard’s Annual Sponsored Cycle Ride on Sunday May 14 to raise money for three local charities.
Depending on how adventurous you felt, you had the choice of two routes. One at 15 miles was a circular route starting at Rye Harbour, which took you through Rye and down to Jury’s Gap on the other side of Camber and back again. The more ambitious 30-mile route cycled through Appledore, Brooklands, Lydd and along the new sea defences back to Camber and Rye Harbour.
At the last count well over £400 was raised for the three local charities: St Michael’s Hospice; Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat Association, and the Coastguard Association. The additional sponsorship money is still being counted so the organisers expect the amount that was raised to be higher.
